Mad Max: Fury Road is one of my favorite action films of late: compelling characters, great storytelling, and a fantastic cast. This blockbuster action flick and was even nominated for an Oscar for “Best Picture” (while taking home a few in categories such as “Best Sound Mixing,” and “Best Costume Design.”) It only seems logical that following the critical and mainstream success of Mad Max: Fury Road that the studio would want to follow it up with a sequel. Hit the jump for more details.
Mad Max: Fury Road is a damn near perfect movie. Not only was it a great movie but two Mad Max sequels had been in the works for some time and neither managed to get off the ground. Additionally, Fury Road also experienced numerous delays in production but it seems to have all been worth it. Now it seems that there is another Mad Max film in the works: Mad Max: Wasteland. We can also expect to see more of Tom Hardy as Max Rockatansky as he’s signed on for three more Mad Max films. Rumors have been circulating that Mad Max: Wasteland will focus on Charlize Theron’s character, Imperator Furiosa though this has not yet been confirmed. Previously, Theron stated that she had only signed on to do Fury Road but has not stated that she would be opposed to doing more Mad Max films. If Wasteland does end up being a more Furiosa-centric film, it would certainly be a welcome reprieve from action movies with male protagonists. (No, I’m not going to include the Underworld or Resident Evil movies and you know exactly why those are poor examples.)
Currently, the IMDB page for Mad Max: Wasteland states that the plot is unknown and that the only confirmed actor for the project so far is Tom Hardy. Hopefully, the next Mad Max film is able to capture the creativity and lore that made Fury Road such a great movie. Not only was it a financial success, it was also critically acclaimed. We will be sure to keep you posted as we learn more about Mad Max: Wasteland. In the mean time, I’ll be wondering if Furiosa or Max will be using bottle caps as currency in the near future.
